EATING

The best Pad Thai (ผัดไทย) at Tha Chang Pier

One of the highlights of Bangkok is definitely its street food: anytime and anywhere, Thai flavours will melt in your mouth and will (almost literally) give you food orgasms. I wouldn’t recommend eating in a Bangkok restaurant, since its street food is often more delicious and way cheaper.

Follow these directions for one of my best food experiences in Thailand. Take the express boat on the Choa Phraya River and get off at Tha Chang Pier (same exit for the Grand Palace). While still at the pier, immediately go right for the best Pad Thai in Bangkok. When I was in Thailand for three weeks three years ago, I ate Pad Thai almost every day, but this one will taste like sheer heaven in your mouth.

Thai Boat Noodles at Victory Monument: Boat Noodle Alley

(ชื่อร้านอาหาร)

Boat Noodles, which received its name after the boats where they used to serve these noodles, are delicious at Boat Noodle Alley near Victory Monument. On your plate, you’ll find rice noodles, yummy slices of pork, a pork meatball and a sprinkle of pig’s blood (I admit: this sounds a little gross but you should really give it a try), which gives the dish its flavours.

Thai Cooking Class

If you’re a foody, taking a Thai Cooking Class (http://www.cookingwithpoo.com/ for example) is probably a great thing to do. They often start by buying some ingredients at a fresh market, followed by preparing a full meal and afterwards eating what you’ve cooked. These cooking classes are a great culinary experience and offer you the chance to surprise your friends and family back home with your Thai cuisine knowledge.

Chinatown

(ไชน่าทาวน์)

Hungry? Take a tuk-tuk to Chinatown and be amazed by all the little food stalls that pop up around the evening. The whole area turns into one big open aired restaurant and you probably won’t know where to start.

Mr. Jones Orphanage

If you’re a sweet tooth who loves crazy, but very delicious combinations, then definitely go try Mr. Jones Orphanage, located in the Siam Center Shopping Mall. Paper planes on the ceiling, trains driving throughout the café, teddy bears and little soldiers all keep you company while you take a bite of the large offer of sweets.
